Property Tax Estimator

The property taxes on a home for sale will influence your monthly payment. When you are searching, keep in mind that the property taxes you see listed for that home may be higher or lower than the actual taxes you will pay.

When taxes may appear lower: If a seller has owned their home for a long time, their taxes have remained low because the taxable value is capped at the time they purchase their home. Once the home is sold, the taxable value is uncapped and can increase to match the SEV (State Equalized Value) thus causing the new homeowner's taxes to increase.

When taxes may appear higher: If a seller does not claim the property as their principal homestead, the property taxes will be assessed at approximately a 30% higher rate.   In order to determine the estimated taxes you will pay based on a particular home, it's best to use the property tax estimator tool.  Taxes vary based on the county, city, and school district in which the property is located.
